As Trafford’s recently appointed Chief Executive, I see this appointment as a great opportunity to shape a new and exciting approach to how we serve our children, young people and families. Local Government faces a number of challenges, and in particular, how we respond to increasing demands on services at a time when budgets are getting tighter. We need to respond positively. Working in a holistic way with colleagues and partners to develop a ‘preventative’ approach focussing upstream on the root of our challenges. This will be a key element of Trafford’s approach.

We are certainly building upon solid foundations. The Council performs well and Trafford is a great place to live and work and do business. It is diverse, with pockets of deprivation as well as areas of affluence, and economically Trafford is the major engine of economic growth within a vibrant city region. With regard to services for Children and Young People, there are already strong relationships and successful joint working arrangements in place and we perform well, something that is acknowledged by Trafford people and our Regulators alike.

I am determined that together we seize the opportunities that lie ahead and hope that you are ready to play a major role in shaping a successful future for Trafford.
